I love spring! I love the vibrant colors of the new leaves on all of the trees and that feeling of renewal. Ever since I came to Oregon from Arizona, I have so enjoyed the definitive changes that come with each season.
With the arrival of spring around our house, there is often talk of new projects for the garden but for the past few years we’ve been focusing our energy elsewhere. Until now!
A few weekends ago we had all of our uneven grass removed and new sod laid, while also greatly reducing the amount of lawn in the yard to make way for new plantings as a barrier to the busy street behind us.
Then, last week we met with Nathan Bernert of Beautifolia – www.beautifolia.com – and we are so excited to be able to have him help us with a great design and plant selections for our new garden space! The passion behind his work makes it clear that he is in the right field. He has guided us with such an ease through the plant selection and design process!
We can’t wait to share the progress in the weeks to come.

I frequently check in on your blog when I am catching up with Posie Gets Cozy and I do enjoy your photos and reflections. THANK YOU so much for your kind words about Oregon! I love Oregon and recently I have found myself defending our lovely corner of the world to several family members who are fleeing to your former state, Arizona. Of course they can live on the moon if they wish, but for some reason they can’t just move away gracefully. They must bash our clouds, our rain, our chilly temperatures and talk constantly about how they will NOT miss the dreary, gloomy weather. I have traveled all over the world and lived in many places across the country. To my way of thinking there is no lovelier place than right here!
I completely here you on this! When I am not thrilled about a destination, I just leave. No point in vocalizing it over and over. Sure the drab winter months here can be rough sometimes but we have the most fantastic spring, summer and fall — all filled with so much color and beauty. AND, the people here are wonderful. I never felt a sense of community when I lived in AZ. Portland has a much stronger community feel to all of the various pockets throughout the city.
Thanks for coming here to visit us on the blog. Stop by again soon and see more garden updates!
